A 3-Week Family Adventure We’ll Never Forget

We are officially back from the most incredible three-week trip to Thailand… and honestly, we’re still not over it.

This trip was everything we hoped for and more. We traveled with our daughters (14 and 12), and they truly had the time of their lives. If you’re wondering whether Thailand is a good destination for families… it absolutely is.

The Journey There

We flew with EVA Air from Toronto to Taipei, then on to Bangkok.

That first flight was long (16 hours), but honestly, it was way more comfortable than we expected. Blankets, pillows, good meals, snacks… it made a big difference.

From Bangkok, we hopped on a quick flight with Bangkok Airways to Koh Samui, then took a ferry over to Koh Phangan.

By the time we arrived, it already felt like we had stepped into another world.

Week 1: Island Life in Koh Phangan

Our first stop was Sunset Hill Boutique Resort, and wow… what a place to land.

Tucked into the hillside, the views were absolutely breathtaking. We spent time in the infinity pool, wandered the property, and just soaked it all in. It was the perfect way to settle into island life.

One of our first nights, we headed to Seaflower Beach Bar for a beach BBQ.That night sticks with me… the sound of the ocean, incredible food, and just that feeling of “we’re really here.”

We spent our days exploring, shopping in town (and learning very quickly how to cross roads with scooters everywhere!), and eating our way through night markets. The food… wow.

One of the most meaningful experiences was joining

Trash Hero for a beach cleanup. There were around 40 of us, and in just one hour, the impact was incredible. It felt so good to give back, even in a small way.

We also:

• Took a long boat to Bottle Beach (absolutely stunning)

• Spent time at Secret Beach• Kayaked along the coast

• Spotted beautiful Ornate Sunbirds

• Took a cooking class at C&M Culture Centre

The cooking class was such a highlight. Seven dishes later (yes, seven!), we were full, happy, and so proud of what we made. Also Cherry one of the owners is hilarious and made everyone feel right at home!

Into the Jungle

Next, we headed inland to Our Jungle House… and this felt like stepping into a completely different world again.

We stayed in a treehouse, surrounded by jungle sounds, a river nearby, and monkeys in the trees. It was magical.

Our night safari in Khao Sok National Park was unforgettable. We saw tarantulas, vipers, monkeys, and more. It was equal parts thrilling and slightly terrifying.

Then came one of the biggest highlights of the entire trip… Cheow Lan Lake.

Floating bungalows, limestone cliffs, swimming right off our porch… and then, on an evening safari, we saw a wild Asian elephant.

That moment felt surreal. A true bucket list experience.

Ao Nang, Krabi

From jungle to beach again, we landed in Ao Nang and stayed at Aonang Phu Pi Maan Resort and Spa.

Hong Island Tour

We had our own villa, a beautiful pool, and a great home base for exploring.

Some highlights here:

• Watching a fire show on the beach

• Island hopping to Hong Island

• Snorkeling (and yes… a LOT of jellyfish!)

• ATV adventure through the landscape

  • Hot Spring & Emerald Pools

We did have one unexpected moment when Dave and our daughter developed a rash (from a beetles saliva, of all things), but the clinic experience was incredible. Fast, kind, and very professional.

We also discovered some amazing food spots, including a restaurant called The Beach that we’re still talking about.

Bangkok

Our final stop was back in Bangkok, where we stayed at Centre Point Plus Hotel Silom.

We explored:

• Lumphini Park (hundreds of monitor lizards… wild!)

• Wat Pho (absolutely breathtaking)

• Canal tours through the city

But one of our favourite experiences was a nighttime private tuk tuk food tour through Bangkok which included seven stops! Street food, glowing temples, bustling markets, mango sticky rice… it was such a fun and vibrant way to experience the city.

Final Thoughts

This trip was everything. Adventure, culture, food, connection, and so many unforgettable moments as a family.

Watching our girls experience a completely different part of the world was incredibly special. They were curious, brave, and fully immersed in every part of it.

Thailand gave us memories we will carry forever.

Khop khun ka, Thailand 💛
