Biodiversity & Ecosystem Study Gr. 6
Service Description
Biodiversity and Ecosystem Study is a dynamic outdoor learning program designed specifically for Grade 6 students and aligned with the Ontario Science curriculum. Through guided Nature Journaling and hands on investigation, students explore the diversity of life within a local ecosystem and examine how organisms interact to maintain balance and sustainability. This program is especially well suited for students who have already had experience with Nature Journaling, as it builds on foundational skills such as detailed observation, scientific sketching, and reflective thinking using the I Notice, I Wonder, It Reminds Me Of framework. Students strengthen their ability to record and analyze data using words, pictures, and numbers while developing deeper scientific understanding. The program can also be adapted for new journalers with additional modelling and structured support to ensure all learners feel confident and engaged. Students investigate a defined outdoor area, classify organisms as producers, consumers, or decomposers, and explore ecosystem interactions such as food webs and environmental influences. Connections to Language, Math, and Environmental Education support critical thinking and real world application. By the end of the session, students gain a deeper understanding of biodiversity, recognize the importance of ecosystem balance, and begin to consider their role in protecting and sustaining the natural world. Programs starting at $250 + tax/class (up to 30 students). NOTE: STARTING PRICES WILL INCREASE FOR FALL 2026: Starting at $275 + tax/class (up to 30 students) Mileage fees apply beyond 50 km. Discounts available for multiple class bookings.
