Seeds and Decomposers Gr. 3

Service Description

Seeds and Decomposers is an engaging outdoor learning program designed specifically for Grade 3 students and closely aligned with the Ontario Science curriculum. Through hands on exploration and guided Nature Journaling, students investigate soil as a living system and discover how decomposers play a critical role in supporting plant growth and healthy ecosystems. This program is especially well suited for students who have already had experience with Nature Journaling, as it builds on foundational skills such as detailed observation, scientific sketching, and reflective thinking using the I Notice, I Wonder, It Reminds Me Of framework. Students deepen their ability to record and analyze their findings using words, pictures, and numbers. However, the workshop can also be thoughtfully adapted for new journalers with additional modelling and structured support to ensure all learners feel confident and successful. Students explore and compare different outdoor areas, examine soil composition, identify decomposers, and make connections between soil health and plant growth. Cross curricular connections to Language, Math, and the Arts support a rich and meaningful learning experience. By the end of the session, students develop a deeper understanding of environmental systems and begin to see soil not as dirt, but as a dynamic and essential part of life on Earth. Programs starting at $250 + tax/class (up to 30 students). NOTE: STARTING PRICES WILL INCREASE FOR FALL 2026: Starting at $275 + tax/class (up to 30 students) Mileage fees apply beyond 50 km. Discounts available for multiple class bookings.
